An architect can be extracted from a large geographic region (and you may need to range far to find a connoisseur of green building). Designbuild companies, however, usually have to operate closer to home, so even green building is widely accepted, may have trouble finding a local business in your immediate area. However, if one is available locally designbuild company with experience in green design, which usually will be your best option.
Another approach is to hire a builder who will design only.
Many builders working stock purchasing plans – maybe make some changes in the way – and thus eliminate the “middleman” expense of a designer. This may be a way to save money, but there are several problems with this approach. First, there are not many available action plans for green homes, the only plans that are optimized for your particular climate. The importance of good energy design can not be overstated. Hopefully the architecture firm or company designbuild have the knowledge necessary to develop facilities of a house very lowenergy. If not, the designer must have a good working relationship with an energy expert who is skilled in building energy details, design passive solar heating, natural lighting, computer modeling of energy efficiency, advanced mechanical equipment, electrical and stateoftheart lighting.
