To build a green home. You may want to provide a safe and healthy place for their children to grow. Or maybe you’re concerned about rising energy costs. For a growing number of us, building a green home is to do our part to protect the environment, helping to make the world a better place for our children and grandchildren. A green house is all this, and often much more.
This book is written to help you understand what green building is, and then show that what is involved in the implementation of these ideas to your home if you’re taking that home custombuilt in search of a house built by a builder speculative, or building a house yourself.
WHAT IS GREEN BUILDING?
Green building term used to describe the design and construction of buildings with some or all of the following characteristics: Buildings that have a minimum adverse impacts on local buildings, regional and even global ecosystems that reduce reliance automobiles, buildings that are energy in its operation;
Buildings and grounds that conserve water;
Buildings constructed in an environmentally responsible manner from materials lowenvironmentalimpact;
The buildings that are durable and can be maintained with minimal environmental impact;
The buildings that help its occupants practice environmentalism, for example, by recycling waste and
The buildings are comfortable, safe and healthy for occupants.
Very often, when people think of green building, what comes to mind is the use of building materials recycledcontent – insulation made from recycled newspaper, GroundUP tiles made of light bulbs. The materials are indeed an important component of green building, but this form of construction goes far beyond.
Green building refers to the relationship between a building and the land on which it sits and how the structure can help foster a sense of community or the need to reduce car use by its inhabitants, how to minimize energy use the building (energy consumption is one of the greatest environmental impacts of any building), and how to create healthier living space possible.
